Malbork Castle – winter photographs of walls, courtyards and interiors
In this gallery, I show Malbork Castle from two perspectives: as an extensive brick building above the Nogat and as a collection of interiors full of architectural details. Winter photographs include walls behind bare trees, snowy courtyards and a panorama of the castle across the river. Bright snow contrasts with brick and emphasises the lines of paths, roofs and buildings.
Inside, I direct attention towards vaults, slender columns and tall windows. Wide frames show the arrangement of halls, while closer views allow the eye to follow radiating vault ribs. The album also includes the castle church, a well surrounded by cloisters and a display of the historic kitchen. Vessels, a wooden table and a masonry hearth introduce a different scale from the extensive façades seen outside.
I took the photographs with a Canon EOS 6D at focal lengths from 17 to 40 mm. Changing light required different settings: from short exposures in the courtyard to a five-second exposure inside the church. Alongside colour photographs, I present a black-and-white view of the kitchen, in which textures and contrasts stand out more clearly. This is my view of the castle through space, light and details that are easy to overlook during a visit. You can find the settings for individual frames under the “More Info” button.
