Fireworks over Gliwice – photographs of New Year’s Eve displays
Fireworks over Gliwice light up the night sky in red, gold, white and green. In this gallery, I present my photographs of New Year’s Eve fireworks: from individual trails of light to broad bursts overlapping above the city’s rooftops.
The dark silhouettes of buildings and antennas provide a reference point for the colourful explosions. One frame also includes an illuminated church tower, with numerous distant fireworks visible behind it. Smoke scattering the light and falling arcs of sparks give each photograph a different arrangement of colours and lines.
I took the photographs from a tripod using BULB mode. Longer exposures recorded the paths of sparks rather than a single flash. In photographs with available EXIF data, I used a Canon EOS 6D, ISO 200 and apertures of f/8 and f/11. Exposures lasted from 6.3 to 33 seconds, allowing several successive bursts to combine in some frames.
This album shows Gliwice on New Year’s Eve through light and movement. I am interested both in the urban setting and the almost abstract forms appearing in the night sky. I invite you to explore the photographs and compare how exposure time changes the appearance of fireworks.
