Sopot in winter – photographs of the pier, beach and Baltic
I show Sopot in winter through its snow-covered pier, broad beach and calm marina water. White railings, rows of lamps and the seaside pavilion create clear lines against the blue sky. Walkers and birds remain in the photographs — small figures that convey the breadth of the coastal landscape.
While photographing, I paid attention to the low sun, long shadows and reflections on the water. Alongside snowy views, the gallery also contains frames without snow cover: wooden jetties, fishing boats on the sand and a stream flowing into the sea. A night view of the pier shows lamplight reflected in long streaks across dark water.
I took the photographs with a Canon EOS 6D; you can find the settings for individual frames in the EXIF data beside the photographs. This is my view of Sopot outside the summer season, focused on light, the space of the beach and details of coastal architecture. The winter landscape is not only grey here — sunny frames reveal the blue sea and the contrast between white and dark water.
